My Story
I was raised to love music from an early age. I knew I wanted to be a "movie star", but singing somehow eluded me until I hit 7th grade. I started doing shows, and at 13, during a summer theatre workshop, I was discovered by an opera singer who offered to teach me. While listening to a classical tape, "Kathleen Battle Sings Mozart", I fell in love with classical music. I didn't understand a word of the Italian, but somehow, she was "acting" with her voice...and I desperately wanted to accomplish that as well. So...opera became my great love. I graduated high school a year early just to study opera for two years with two wonderful coaches from The Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, and then I went on full scholarship to Loyola University, New Orleans, for a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice Performance. I have performed in a dozen operas, from local companies in NJ to my university and also with New Orleans Opera Company, where I was fortunate enough to sing onstage with the wonderful coloratura, Elizabeth Futral, and many other great talents. I moved to Northern Virginia in July of 2003, and discovered another great love...teaching.
